The prohibition covers both wholesale and retail sale of alcohol and will last until April 20, said BMA spokesman Pongsakorn Kwanmuang. As part of measures to curb the spread of Covid-19, food and beverage shops as well as street vendors can only open from 4am to 10pm from April 10 to 30 and can only sell takeaway food. This regulation does not apply to eateries in airports and hospital canteens, where seating can be provided to customers. Convenience stores are required to close from 10pm to 4am.
This order goes into effect from Friday (April 10).
The move follows similar bans on the sale of alcohol in other provinces, including Sakon Nakorn (from March 31-April 16), Chiang Mai (April 10-20), Rayong (April 3-15), Buri Ram (April 2-30), Mudaharn (April 6-30), Supan Buri (April 4-30), Nakhon Pathom (April 2-30), Lampun (April 1-30) and Surin (April 2-30).
