Police ordered to monitor food handouts following scuffles

Police tighten security and social distancing measures at Bangkok’s food-handout stations after violence erupted as people queued for giveaways. Police had to intervene on April 12 when an ugly brawl broke out as people queued for free food being given out near Sanam Luang. 

Metropolitan police chief Pol Lt Gen Phukphong Phongpetra, chief of the Metropolitan Police Bureau that people need to sympathise with both parties, the needy recipients and the officials who had to obey measures to prevent Covid-19 from spreading. The police chief has ordered officers in every area to help coordinate Bangkok’s giveaway operations, instructing them to keep social distancing at all times. 

He also called on the public to continue cooperating with authorities so that the epidemic does not flare up again.
