wanna buy an Afghan Rug?

These modern Oriental rugs were woven during the Soviet Invasion into Afghanistan from 1979 to 1980. The weavers were the women and children who fled into the refugee camps of Iran and Pakistan. The imagery woven into these rugs changed from traditional icons to images reflecting the military equipment used by the invading Russian armies; Kalashnikov rifle (AK 47s), armored troop carriers, attack copters, Mig 27 bombers, hand grenades, RPGs (rocket propelled grenade launchers), land mines, stingers, etc.
These rugs truly reflect the trauma of the Afghan people and perhaps create a catharsis of soul as they are woven from deep impressions to static vision.
